Back in my machinist days (early 70's) I ran an old turret lathe that used stop rods. It was slightly different than what your showing here. It was a hoot to use and worked very well. I don't remember the brand, but it still had the old WW2 certificate on it.

To paraphrase Roger Welsch, not matter how many pullers you have, they're never the right one. I was contemplating that thought tonight as I wrestled with the rototiller that jumped the belts while cultivating the garden and stalled the machine out. We wrestled for an hour, tried the pullers I had handily nearby, wondered which kid borrowed the better fitting one, dug through the uncle's tool kit, before cutting the belt and levering the remains out. I can also cite Tony Hillerman's autobiography, Expect little and you're "Seldom Disappointed." At least no broken wine bottles like Geraldo!

That ratchet you pulled out with the "T" handle is called a "Sidewinder" and came in 1/2" and 3/8". They were made for turning nuts and bolts in areas where you can't swing a normal ratchet or wrench. I have them out in my shop some place. I was a young "hot rodder" back in the early 70's and my Dad got them for me for Christmas, which is why I haven't tossed them. They are pretty much useless due to the size of the head . Vintage tool collectors love them because they were an odd ball tool.

The Clausing lathe in the background at the sale would've been a more substantial machine. Granted there wasn't a mother lode of pullers hiding under it 😂

i can pick locks to i us to be a locksmith make keys and re tumbler locks and all that i think youl enjoy the lathe i know i do mine

I suspect the auction house was in to the cabinet, they are not fools . If it was loaded with accessories for the lathe it would have been opened... to draw a bigger price. this way the price of the lathe was increased on the bidders hopes thst it was full of accessories.

that lathe you have i have the exact one iv made a lot of stuff in that lathe then i made a milling attachment using a drill press so its my table top machine shop as i call it im all-so into RC cars and have Meade rc parts all-so some car parts for a friends hot rod and probably will make some stuff for my cars and trucks i like the older stuff but i saw a lot of stuff id love to have i love that lathe

You can sell everything from inside that cabinet and buy a real lathe! You are literally digging through gold trying to find lead.

I thought you might have one and if I sent you a picture of the guts of it you might be able to help me. ??

That little lathe would be a great candidate for an ELS (electronic lead screw) Mr. Pete!

Lock picking that wafer lock might be more difficult than the majority of Master lock. But I have picked those wafer locks using a pair of paper clips.

You can say that the old man pulled one on over you...... pullers from large to small, and probably all for farm machinery and large plant.

Those pullers are worth more than the hunk of rust that was on top of the cabinet.

All of that machinery was so badly rusted, I thought you were at a government surplus auction. Hopefully what's locked in the cabinet pays for what you lost on the lathe cost.

If you wear a belt and suspenders, consider adding shims under the jaw in addition to clamping. The clamp holding the jaw may slip. Don't ask me how I know.

Did you feed threading tool into work using compound set at 29 degree, or use the lathe crossfeed to feed straight in? I liked straight in feed with crossfeed especially using an upside down carbide insert. Several finish passes will produce "clean" full thread form.

Tools are only ruined when you give up on them. It is a shame that they didn’t even bother to put a tarp over them. I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

You should easily get your money back easily for selling those tools that you had in that cabinet does pullers would come in handy to a mechanic and other people

The Snapon puller set and rear axel puller set retail for just over $2300, you should be able to get $1500 easy, they look brand new

Just think, someone left that auction dissapointed and wondering where all the pullers were! Worst case yoiu could sell it all for scrap.

Mr Pete, I needed to buy a couple torsion springs but not available. Found that you made some and I am going to try. I have used my Craftsman in back gear to make smaller ones but your vice jig worked great!

Try grinding the tops of the door hinge axles and just tap them out to gain access to the cabinet.

Someone may have commented, but the serial number looks to be from 1953. It has Timken bearings and luckily the 1"-8 spindle (not 3/4) and 18" between centers. It is a desirable lathe worth some TLC. It might also be of interest that the latest Atlas 6x18 branded lathe in the database is s/n 27421. There were some Craftsman branded lathes, but they are shown with sleeve bearings. That's from the owner's database, not the catalog.
